Description: Metal and Water for saxophone quartet (SATB) draws inspiration from jazz and Latin music, and is written for intermediate to advanced players. The music alternates between flowing, harmonically rich adagio sections (water) and energetic fast passages (metal) that require “razor-sharp” technique. Players will test their abilities to read changing meters and demonstrate ensemble precision that can be maintained while remaining sensitive to phrase shaping and articulations. Great as both an opener or encore for recital programs, this imaginitive work is also well suited as a contest piece, demonstrating a wide musical range and stylistic flexibility in a fun way!
