Achieved is His Glorious Work (from The Creation) for String Orchestra
Composers:
- Haydn, Franz Joseph
Arrangers:
Detailed Instrumentation: String Orchestra- Caputo, Bud
Duration: 3 minutes
Description: Achieved is His Glorious Work (Vollendet is das große Werk) is the culminating moment from Haydn’s masterpiece oratorio, The Creation (Die Schöpfung). Originally written for chorus and full orchestra, the piece concludes the second part of the oratorio when the act of creation was completed by God in the book of Genesis. In this arrangement for intermediate strings, the parts have been transposed to G to allow the music to fall well within comfortable playing ranges for the players, while retaining the melodic splendor and rhythmic vitality of Haydn’s original. It is also ideal for small string groups lacking a balanced instrumentation, as the cello doubles the bass throughout.
