Two Nocturnes for Violin and Piano
Composers:
  • Chopin, Frederic
Arrangers:
  • Sarasate, Pablo De
Detailed Instrumentation: Violin and Piano

Description: Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) composed his NOCTURNE in E-flat major, Op. 9 No. 2 in 1832 and NOCTURNE in D major, Op. 27 No. 2 in 1836, two of his most beloved works for solo piano. These lyrical pieces epitomize Chopin’s gift for melodic beauty, harmonic sophistication, and emotional nuance, transforming the nocturne from a simple salon genre into a deeply expressive art form. The celebrated violinist and composer Pablo de Sarasate (1844–1908) later transcribed these two NOCTURNES for violin and piano, bringing a new voice to Chopin’s poetic lines through the violin’s singing tone and expressive range. Sarasate’s versions retain the intimacy and grace of the originals while highlighting the virtuosity and sensitivity of the violinist. Today, these transcriptions are admired as elegant bridges between the Romantic piano and violin repertoires, cherished by performers and audiences alike for their lyrical charm and timeless beauty. Reprint edition.
