Duration: 28 minutes
Description: SIX DUOS CONCERTANTS POUR DEUX BASSONS, Op. 3 were composed in the late 1780s (c. 1787) by François Devienne (1759–1803), the celebrated French bassoonist, flutist, and composer often called the “French Mozart.” Written during his years as a performer at the Paris Opéra and as professor at the newly founded Paris Conservatoire, these duos are written in a refined, galant style, and the works elevate the bassoon from its traditional continuo role to a fully lyrical and agile solo voice, engaging the two instruments in equal and conversational partnership. Today SIX DUOS CONCERTANTS, Op. 3 remain central to the bassoon chamber repertoire. Three of these duos have been selected for this publication, edited by Swiss conductor, composer, and musicologist Ernst Hess. These duos are also recommended for cellists, to either play with a bassoon or with another cello. Reprint edition.
