  • Lyadov, Anatoly
Arrangers:
  • Leonard, J. Michael
Detailed Instrumentation: Saxophone (Soprano or Tenor) or Clarinet

Description: Anatoly Lyadov (1855–1914), arranged by J. Michael Leonard, THREE PRELUDES for Saxophone (Soprano or Tenor) or Clarinet are transcriptions of three of the composer’s piano miniatures—Prelude in B minor, Op. 31 No. 2, Prelude in D major, Op. 40 No. 3, and Prelude in B minor, Op. 11 No. 1. Composed between the late 1870s and early 1890s, these short pieces exemplify Lyadov’s refined sense of harmony, delicate lyricism, and the subtle emotional restraint characteristic of the Russian Romantic school. Leonard’s sensitive arrangement brings these intimate works into the realm of wind performance, allowing clarinetists and saxophonists to explore Lyadov’s nuanced melodic writing and tonal color. The collection has found favor in recital and educational settings for its expressive depth and technical clarity.
