Six Melodies, Opp. 4 and 5
Composers:
Detailed Instrumentation: Solo Piano- Mendelssohn-Hensel, Fanny
- Mendelssohn, Felix
Duration: 25 minutes
Description: SIX MELODIES, Opp. 4 and 5 were composed in the early 1840s by Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel (1805–1847) as part of the small but significant body of piano music she was able to publish during her lifetime, despite the social constraints placed on women composers in 19th-century Germany. These lyrical character pieces were intended for the cultivated domestic salon culture of Berlin rather than the public concert stage. Today SIX MELODIES holds an increasingly important place in the piano repertoire as performers and scholars continue to rediscover Mendelssohn-Hensel’s contributions, restoring her rightful position within the broader Romantic tradition. Reprint edition.
