Duration: 15 minutes
Description: In 1887, Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) was living at his mother-in-law’s house where another room was rented to an amateur violinist, Josef Kruis. Dvořák often heard Kruis playing duets with his teacher and decided to write a trio to join them, resulting in his TERZETTO, Op. 74 for two violins and viola. This work proved too difficult for Kruis, resulting in Dvořák composing the easier MINIATURES, Op. 75a, a four movement work for the same instrumentation. The composer so liked the little trios that he arranged them for violin and piano under the title 4 ROMANTIC PIECES, Op. 75/B. 150. This critical edition was completed by Dvořák expert Otakar Šourek and the violin part was revised by Josef Micka. Reprint edition.
