Duration: 3 minutes

Description: In the style of the French Overture, the Overture to George Frideric Handel’s Alexander Balus, HWV 65 begins with the expected slow, dotted-rhythm Maestoso opening. This leads into the Allegro movement with loads of imitation and counterpoint as only Handel could do it. Unlike most in this genre, every section must be counted on for the melody at times. A great ensemble-building work.
