La Sevillane, Op. 19
Composers:
  • Chaminade, Cecile
Detailed Instrumentation: Two Pianos Four Hands

Duration: 5 minutes

Description: LA SÉVILLANE, Op. 19 was composed in 1885 by Cécile Chaminade (1857–1944), during the early years of her rise as one of France’s most celebrated pianist-composers. Written for piano four hands (and later arranged in other versions), the work reflects the late-19th-century fascination with Spanish dance styles and exotic regional color. LA SÉVILLANE quickly became popular in salon culture, where Chaminade’s music was widely performed and admired. Today LA SÉVILLANE remains one of her best-known character pieces, frequently played in both solo and duo settings as a delightful encore with a Spanish-inspired flourish. Reprint edition.
