Appalachian Reflections
Composers:
Detailed Instrumentation: String Orchestra- Hall, Percy
Duration: 3 minutes
Description: There is a wealth of “mountain music” from Appalachia, which includes the states of West Virginia, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. Both fiddle tunes and ballads fit this description, and many of them had their roots in the European countries whose peoples settled in those areas. Appalachian Reflections, arranged by Percy Hall, begins and ends with the popular fiddle tunes Old Joe Clark and Devil’s Dream. The contrasting interlude, Just Before the Battle, Mother, is a composed piece by G. F. Root in the sentimental style of the 1850s.
