Four Pieces from Much Ado About Nothing
Composers:
- Korngold, Erich Wolfgang
Arrangers:
Detailed Instrumentation: Violin, Piano- Granat, Endre
Duration: 14 minutes
Description: Erich Wolfgang Korngold composed his incidental music for chamber orchestra to William Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing in 1919. The violin-piano setting by Korngold followed in 1920 and this version replaced the chamber orchestra when the members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra were no longer available for the theater performances. Consequently, Korngold himself played the piano part for the remaining performances. The suite consists of four movements: 1. Maiden in the Bridal Chamber, 2. Dogberry and Verges, 3. Intermezzo, and 4. Masquerade. This world premiere violin performance edition includes concise fingerings and bowings by Heifetz protégé Endre Granat.
