Description: DELIRIEN WALZER, Op. 212 was composed in 1867 by Josef Strauß (1827-1870) during his thriving period as a composer of Viennese dance-music. The work, edited by Max Schönherr, is orchestrated as a full Viennese-style waltz, and remains firmly rooted in the Golden Era Strauss tradition of elegance and subtle harmonic surprise. It has been included regularly in the famed annual Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker (“New Year’s Concert”) programs, reflecting its enduring popularity in the Viennese repertoire. Notable in modern discography is Schönherr’s own recording (Orchester der Wiener Volksoper) which offers a historically informed yet lively reading of the work. Altogether, DELIRIEN WALZER continues to hold a place in concert programming as a charming yet refined example of Josef Strauß’s orchestral dance-music craft, bridging the lighter ballroom tradition and serious symphonic quality. Instrumentation: 1+1(Picc).2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(2): Hp.Accrdn(Harmonika) Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set): CS (Pno-Cond) in set. Reprint edition.
